Chartbook | September 2026: Institutionalizing The Future Of Family Wealth
Updated 30 Sept 2026•1 min read

India is creating wealth faster than it is learning to manage it, and Ionic Wealth's September 2026 Chartbook, “Family Offices: Institutionalizing The Future Of Family Wealth,” explores what that gap means for the country's wealthiest families.
With 205+ billionaires (3rd globally) and 86K millionaires (4th), and a projected 34% share of emerging-market wealth addition through 2030, India's momentum is undeniable. Yet only 15% of its wealth is professionally advised, against 48% in the US and 68% in China.
Family offices are stepping into that void. Their numbers have surged from 45 in 2018 to 300 in 2024, though penetration among UHNIs remains just 2–3%, as per a research report from Ernst & Young.
The opportunity is significant, as a $4 Tn intergenerational wealth transfer approaches among the Indian diaspora, while only 21% of Indian family offices have a defined succession plan.
The chartbook also tracks how portfolios are evolving, with 15–25% now directed to alternatives such as AIFs, private credit and pre-IPO investments. It further covers a post-IPO reinvestment framework, tax considerations for globally mobile families, and how legacy business houses like Tata, Reliance and Adani are moving capital into semiconductors, AI and defence.
